As mentioned, we decided to have a face-to-face orientation for the students based on the fact that they, for the most part, had never taken an online course.
One of the reasons for offering this particular course as an online course was that each year some students are in Washington DC for the semester and need to take this course.
At the time of the orientation, two students were in DC. We decided to use Adobe Connect so they could listen to the session on their computers and ask questions through the chat “pod.”
It worked out extremely well. Prof Salkin discussed grading and expectations. I demonstrated how to navigate the TWEN site. Students both at Albany Law and in DC asked questions.
I think at the end of the session, the students felt more at ease with the course. And so did we!
The orientation was recorded and the link to the video posted on TWEN – http://albanylaw.na3.acrobat.com/p59355305/
